My Story

Tim Young: Harmonious Blend of Passion & Dedication

From the grand stages of Carnegie Hall to the students I teach and the community I nurture, my journey has been shaped by passion, dedication, and a lifelong belief in the power of music to connect and inspire others. I am Tim Young, a pianist, composer, educator, veteran, and community leader with a vision to impact the world through music, education, and entrepreneurship.

My musical journey began with an early fascination that evolved into a lifelong love for music during high school. Initially self-taught, my passion quickly led me to formal education at Shenandoah University and the University of North Texas, where I honed my skills in both classical and jazz traditions. Guided by exceptional mentors, I solidified my artistic path and commitment to music.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of performing across the United States and sharing the stage with world-class artists — experiences that have deeply enriched my musicianship and broadened my perspective. This blend of experiences and influences has strengthened my dedication to using music as a transformative tool, inspiring others to pursue their own artistic journeys.

Musical Journey

My career took an incredible turn when I joined The U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors, the official touring big band of the United States Army. For twenty years, I had the honor of serving my country through music — traveling across the nation and around the world, connecting with people from all walks of life. Those years taught me that music is one of the most powerful ways to build connection and bring people together.

Along the way, I had the privilege of performing with some amazing orchestras, including the Boston Pops, and the New York Pops Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. I’ve also been fortunate to share the stage with artists like Phil Woods, Kevin Mahogany, Ben Vereen, and Marvin Hamlisch — moments that reminded me how much we can learn from one another through the art of collaboration.

As a bandleader, I recorded Tales of Time with my brother, Alphonso — a project that let me tell my own musical stories through original compositions and arrangements. I’ve also had the chance to record as a sideman with The Shook-Russo Quartet, including two albums on Summit Records. Each of these experiences has helped shape not just the musician I am today, but the person as well.

Educator & Community Builder

In 2011, I founded Young’s School of Gospel and Jazz Piano, LLC, where I taught jazz, gospel, Latin, and other contemporary styles to aspiring musicians. Witnessing their achievements, from earning awards to gaining admission into prestigious music schools, was profoundly rewarding. While my teaching approach has evolved, my commitment to empowering others remains steadfast through mentorship.

Beyond music, I continue my dedication to community building through the Young Society of Outstanding Professionals International. This global network connects and inspires young professionals across various industries. As we gear up for a 2026 relaunch, the focus will be on networking, professional growth, collaboration, and making meaningful connections.

Leadership, faith & vision

My journey is a testament to the power of leading by example — guided by faith, grounded in strong family bonds, and strengthened by meaningful relationships. I believe that real leadership begins with service, and that success is most fulfilling when it’s shared with others. I’m driven by the endless possibilities that come from hard work and surrounding myself with people who inspire growth and excellence.

Over the years, I’ve learned that purpose and vision grow through connection — whether on stage, in the classroom, or within my community. I strive to live a life that reflects integrity, compassion, and creativity while encouraging others to pursue their full potential. Through music, education, and entrepreneurship, I continue to build on this foundation, empowering others to dream boldly and leave their own lasting mark on the world.
